Meeting on the ledge

(or why I don't get out much…..)

It must be a low-news day, because the BBC has put out a story that most people profess to have have read more than they have in order to impress other people. Apparently most people are impressed by people who read Shakespeare.

I wonder how this fits with the US survey that only about half of its respondees read for relaxation at all?  This may not be the case in the UK according to a Manchester University survey, which suggests that people in the UK are actually reading more. Or was it just that the respondees were just trying to impress  the questioners as the BBC survey implies?

Nevertheless there is a surprising lack of stigma to not reading. Maybe its just because of my Librarian background but I’m often shocked by colleagues who proudly say that they don’t read…..
